Cotchett, Pitre & McCarthy is investigating a massive data breach disclosed by Prudential. Hackers may have been circulating stolen customer data as far back as February 2024, which is when Prudential admits that its systems were compromised. Criminal hackers that call themselves the Alphv/BlackCat ransomware group has claimed responsibility for the breach, which includes full names, email addresses, physical addresses, dates of birth, insurance policy numbers, drivers license information and other identification numbers. 

Prudential began notifying customers in late June 2024, even though it discovered the breach on February 5th, 2024. Prudential has offered no explanation for its nearly four-month delay between learning of the breach and notifying customers.

Companies like Prudential must do more to protect consumers’ valuable information. Consumers deserve to have their information protected and when mega corporations like Prudential fall short of their obligations, consumers are entitled to compensation.
